Land Use Committee

The Land Use Committee was formed in 2016 in response to new development projects in the Tenderloin. It is comprised of tenant leaders who analyze different facets of the built environment including planning policy, transportation, and affordable housing. Land Use members work on campaigns promoting sustainable development of the neighborhood that centers the needs of SRO tenants and long-term residents.

Recognizing that the Tenderloin is a historic district with the largest concentration of historic neon signs in San Francisco, CCSROC’s Land Use Committee worked side by side with Tenderloin Museum (TLM) and D5 Supervisor Dean Preston’s office to establish the Tenderloin Neon Special Sign District within the North of Market Residential Special Use District. Looking at neon signs as a work of art that also provides much-needed street lighting, deters crime, encourages healthy foot traffic, and restores the neighborhood’s vibrancy, the Land Use Committee made their case at City Hall! Successful in their Mission, the Tenderloin Neon Sign Project in Fall, 2022 has fostered a positive sense of identity for Tenderloin residents.
