CCSROC xx Brightline Defense

Brightline Defense is an environmental justice non-profit, located in SoMa, that bridges policy and legal advocacy to ensure that workforce and environmental policies benefit local, underserved, and low-income communities. Understanding that SRO buildings lack adequate HVAC systems, CCSROC partners with Brightline Defense to educate and mobilize residents who are unable to properly ventilate or seal their spaces, which can lead to issues like mold and poor in-door air quality. Due to outdated ventilation systems, outdoor air pollution, and the sheer number of people sharing these spaces, simply breathing in SROs can pose complications. Understanding how expensive and time-consuming it can be for SRO residents to obtain air purification devices through official government channels, even when they qualify, CCSROC leaders collaborated with Brightline to provide costly and high-quality air purifiers free of charge to SRO residents. From making public comment on air quality and other environmental issues to conducting community workshops to spread awareness and reach more TL residents, Brightline Defense and CCSROC work together to find longer-term solutions.
